A little news from Lakeside

The snowbirds miss out on some of the summer fun. A few days ago both golf carts, a Jeep and two trucks responded to a problem in the boat storage area. There was a 4 ft Rattlesnake under one of the boats. But it was quickly taken care of and the Park settled down to normal.

The first weekend in May was a bear here. Lots of people coming in to get settled for the summer. All of us were running here and there. It has settled down for now and the rest of the summer crowd is trickling in. The new camp hosts have gotten into the swing of things and it is great having Chris work with me three days a week. I think we have it all under control… [ha!] but stay tuned. The summer is just beginning.

I broke away from town and went up to the VLA on Sunday. I've been here four years and had never made that trip. The weather was perfect for a little road trip and I really enjoyed getting away. Sometimes one only needs a break, not a vacation.

We have arrived in Union, WA

Hi everyone,

We have been here about a week. It is beautiful, quiet and fishy.... :-o)
We have been walking a whole 50 feet to dig clams and pick up oysters. Our camper is in the middle left marina photo. There is not much in Union other than nice homes. Shelton is about 13 miles. It has all the civilization we need: Papa Murphy's, Fred Meyers, Wal Mart and Taco Bell. And Anytime Fitness. Last night I went to my first Kettlebell class. My whole body is sore. It was a great class. The top photo shows the bells. I call them balls. Do they look like bells to you?
Dave starts his job this Friday. His schedule will be Friday thru Thursday. Shrimp season started last Saturday. Yes, we were given some. The fishing regulations are strange here. So far the shrimp days are scheduled for 5/1, 5/5, 5/8, 5/12. Saturday & Wednesday. Future dates to be announced depending on quota's that remain. However they figure that out?
One more thing....I found a cool picture in the Museum at Baker City. I think we should have this as our Halloween outfit? See the last photo. Have a great day!!!!

Settled in Colorado!

Got to Pueblo last night, had a good trip from Albuquerque. There were clouds and snow showers all around, but we only got a few drops. It really was a beautiful ride! Made the short trip from Pueblo to Wheat Ridge today, and we're pretty much settled in. Got to hug our daughter and grandson already, and now we're ready to crash for a day!

Monument Valley

Howdy from Blanding, UT!!

We left Gouldings (Gerald's other place) yesterday. Gouldings is a beautiful RV park in Monument Valley on the Navajo Reservation. Since we are meandering up to Moab, UT, where we'll spend a month, we decided to stay at Gouldings for a week even though we knew that traveling most roads on the Navajo Reservation is.....frowned upon. The Navajos, in Monument Valley, have a $5 fee to get into their Park. In the Park there is a 17 mile loop road you can take your car on that has some awesome views of the Valley! They also have a restaurant, gift shop and motel in the complex. The 17 mile loop was fine for us, though there are lots of Navajo Guides with vehicles that go on all kinds of longer trips into the Valley. We did find that the Gouldings was convenient to places outside the reservation. There are some roads that were spectacular around the "Valley of the Gods" area in UT.

Leaving Gouldings we traveled north (Rte 163) to Mexican Hat, on the border of UT/AZ. We saw one RV park but I don't think I'd want to stay there. We went by several RV parks in Bluff that looked very nice and there is a rafting company if you want to take a ride down the San Juan River. We are staying at Gopher Kampark in Blanding. It is a NO frills park that has around 6 sites that are huge pull through, 50 amp, water and sewer included. There is propane and laundry. It also has a quick Mexican restaurant "Taco Time" that's pretty good. An ALCO and grocery store is right across the street. Price for the week $120.00

About the rattlesnakes in Chinle. All I can say is I'm glad I don't have a snake phobia cause there were at least 7 snakes! Thank you Debbie for posting for me!!

If we were to go back to Chinle, which we'd like to do, we would only stay a couple of nights at the FREE campground by the visitors center. No hookups but neither did the campground we stayed at and paid for which was farther out of town. Canyon De Chelle is the prettiest canyon I've ever seen! We had a wonderful time in Chinle even though we couldn't get into the bottom of the canyon because of spring runoff. We were very fortunate that we were able to hire a guide who was willing to take us to some pretty remote sites on the reservation where I climbed to wonderful cliff dwellings, arches and petroglyphs. We had a wonderful time!! Our 3 hour trip ended up to be 8 hours! When we go back to Chinle our guide wants us to go with him and his family "camping." He said we'd have a great time exploring with them and he'd provide "mutton stew and bread!"

We are in the third week of our seven month "Blue Road Adventure!" It has been wonderful!
